Egg Coffee (cà phê trúng) is a specialty of Northern Vietnam and is unquestionably one of the best things to do in Saigon. While it’s more common in Northern Vietnam, you can still find plenty of fantastic coffee shops serving up this frothy delicacy in the south too.
Check out our 4 favorite places to drink egg coffee in Saigon.
1. Góc Hà Nội
This adorable coffee shop is nestled in an alleyway at the heart of Bui Vien Street in District 1.
Goc Ha Noi has three levels. The ground floor is cozy, with space for the owner to take orders and prepare coffee. The two upper floors are smaller, with a total of six tables, seating around twenty people at most when fully occupied.
Every detail, from the patterned teapots to the vintage cassette player, adds to its charming Hanoi-style ambiance.
The menu at Goc Ha Noi is refreshingly simple, featuring Vietnamese coffee, egg coffee, egg chocolate, and a few teas and juices. The egg coffee here is straightforward yet delicious, and priced at just 40,000 VND, it’s the most affordable cà phê trúng on our list.
On the third floor, you’ll discover a large glass jar filled with sugar cookies. These cookies are crafted from the leftover egg whites from the countless cups of egg coffee served. While the cookies are complimentary, donations are appreciated and go towards providing clothing and school supplies for children.

Ong Chu Cuoi Hem is a cozy spot for locals to savor their cup of caffeinated eggy delight. This charming bistro, tucked away in a small alley, offers a selection of coffee and cocktails. The name “Ong Chu Cuoi Hem” translates literally to “the uncle at the end of the alley,” capturing the essence of its hidden location.
The place has a dimly lit inside, with a menu written in bright colors on the wall behind the bar. Outside, there’s a small terrace filled with plants and greenery. It’s a unique mix of hipster and reggae styles.

3. Cafe Vietphin
Cafe Vietphin is situated in the heart of Saigon, in District 1, directly across from Tao Dan Park and approximately 1 kilometer from Ben Thanh Market. Getting here is quite straightforward due to its central location.
Despite the bustling traffic outside, inside, Café Vietphin offers a soothing atmosphere filled with the aroma of fresh coffee. The interior design is striking, featuring white tones, brown furniture, and warm yellow light bulbs that enhance the coziness, making it a welcoming and bright space.
At Vietphin Coffee, the egg layer is creamy, smooth, and just the right amount of sweetness. However, the robusta coffee underneath is quite bitter and strong, sometimes overpowering the egg yolk. As a result, you may find it necessary to add some sugar. It’s also worth considering when ordering this drink in the evening, as the strong coffee might lead to difficulty sleeping.
